On the heels of the Santa Marta conference on transitioning away from fossil fuels, the Group of 78 is privileged to host, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 10 am Eastern, a webinar on how small businesses in the Global South are charting a path toward a gender-equitable energy transition.

How small businesses can enable a gender-equitable energy transition

The event will report on the innovative findings of the Clean Energy for Development (CEDCA) initiative, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), which supports 12 research projects in 27 countries to produce rigorous data on three themes: clean energy transition; micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs); and women and youth.

Moderated by Bipasha Baruah, Canada Research Chair in Global Women’s Issues at Western University, the panel will include Yasmeen Oraby, Senior Programs Officer at the Economic Research Forum in Egypt; María Eugenia Castelao Caruana, Adjunct Researcher at the Bariloche Foundation in Argentina; Leonard Hasu, Ghana-based Monitoring and Evaluation Coordnator for the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa; and Nhung Nguyen, Lecturer at the University of Commerce in Vietnam.
