Writing to Prime Minister Mark Carney on September 14, Group of 78 Chair Ted Jackson and Past Chair Roy Culpeper critique the recent statement of Canada and 11 European countries on banning international trade of goods from illegal settlements in the West Bank as not going nearly far enough. The authors point out that, since the so-called “ceasefire” on October 10, 2025, more than 1,300 Palestinians, including over 300 children, have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza. “If the two-state solution, or any peaceful solution, is to survive, such unimpeded and unpunished violence must end now,” they argue. “Working with its allies and through international bodies, including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, Canada must say more, and do more, to halt the rampant killing and bring the Israeili leadership to justice.”
