We celebrate International Mother Earth Day, April 22, 2026, by recommitting to a world where diplomacy overcomes conflict, where the transition away from fossil fuels is accelerated, and where civil society organizations have sufficient space and support to advance rights and justice.
G78 supports the United Nations Environment Programme’s celebration of this special day. “Mother Earth,” states UNEP, “is clearly urging a call to action-a need to shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility.”
The United Nations General Assembly launched this special day through a resolution in 2009.
