Join us for a stimulating conversation with our guest speaker Robb Barnes, Climate Program Director of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and a recent delegate at COP30 in Brazil, to explore issues around on climate and health in the international context. This talk will look at the many intersections between health and climate change, with an emphasis on air pollution and the many impacts of climate change on human health. As part of his presentation, Robb will review the state of play of international climate negotiations, with a special focus on Canada’s role at COP30 and beyond. The talk will conclude with some suggested areas of focus for climate action across various jurisdictional levels. Speaker: Robb Barnes is the Climate Program Director at the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE). Robb was previously the executive director of Ecology Ottawa as well as Capacity Building Institute. Robb is a climate advocate with 16 years of involvement in climate and environmental issues. Robb’s work has focused on engagement organizing, climate-friendly cities, and data-driven communications.
Moderator: Leah Darbyson (G78) is a Master’s student at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs where she specializes in Health, Displacement, and Humanitarian Policy. Her research focuses on climate-induced migration, property rights in conflict zones, and the intersection of legal regimes, development, and displacement. Her work reflects a strong interest in rethinking international cooperation, sustainable development, and the governance of emerging technologies.
