G78 calls on the federal government to sanction Canadian companies working with ICE

By | February 4, 2026

The egregious behaviour of US Immigration and Customs  Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota and other states prompted the Group of 78 to call on the Government of Canada to immediately sanction Canadian companies working with ICE, including armoured car manufacturer Roshel and social media firm Hootsuite. In their letter to Prime Minister Carney and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, National Defence, and Industry, with copies to the Premiers of Ontario and British Columbia, G78 Vice Chair Susan Tanner and Past Chair Roy Culpeper urge the government to use all the tools at their disposal–halting the ongoing federal contracts with these firms, disqualifying them from future procurement, rescinding the subsidies and incentives they benefit from, and disavowing them in public–to persuade them to halt their work for ICE. The Group of 78 also calls on the Liberal caucus to vote for the Close the Loopholes Act under consideration in Parliament and endorse the work of Canadian human rights organizations supporting peacebuilding with partner groups in American cities.
