On October 9, 2025, G78 Board member and author Burce Campbell published a blog in The Conversation entitled “Mark Carney’s climate inaction is at odds with his awareness of climate change’s existential threat”. The article reminds readers of the Carney’s speech to central bankers a decade ago arguing that climate change is a threat to international financial stability and his 2019 “Tragedy of the Horizon” speech as UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance designating climate change as ” the world’s greatest existential threat.” To date, the Prime Minister’s action on climate has been not only been insufficient, it’s been pro-fossil fuels and going in precisely the wrong direction.
