UN Secretary General warns that Gulf War is “out of control” – appoints senior envoy to spearhead peace efforts

On March 25, António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary General, stated that the escalating Gulf War is spiralling “out of control.” He urged all nations involved in the conflicts to step back and allow “diplomacy to prevail” to avert “a wider war, a rising tide of human suffering, and a deeper global economic shock.”

To aid in the diplomatic mission, Guterres has appointed veteran diplomat Jean Arnault as his Personal Envoy. Arnault has been dispatched to the area to lead UN efforts to end the conflict.
