Serious, urgent action must be taken to end the famine in Gaza. On August 25, 2025, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Group of 78, our Chair Dr. Ted Jackson wrote to Mark Carney urging Canada to demand that Israel immediately unblock the huge convoy of food aid trucks that would end the man-made famine perpetrated by Israel in Gaza. To increase pressure on Israel, the G78 urged the Prime Minister to suspend trade of any kind with Israel and to call for all United Nations member states to do the same. Canada should also call for the UN to send peacekeeping operations forces into Gaza City to enable peace talks to begin.
